Frequently Asked Questions
Are Ion Layer patches allergy free?
Ion Layer patches are manufactured with latex free components and are hypoallergenic. On occasion, Ion members may have some skin irritation from the adhesive or medication that is applied to the skin. If you notice any irritation, please consult with your Ion physician or email us at hello@ionlayer.com.
Are there any side effects to NAD+ or Ion Layer patches?
If you've had NAD+ IVs before you'll know it is common to feel cramping, nausea, and intense internal pain. Because the patches infuse the same amount of NAD+ over 14 hours instead of 45 minutes, those symptoms are nearly reduced to nothing. Those with sensitive skin may notice a slight reaction the adhesive patch, but nothing more than you would with a bandaid.
Are there any side effects with NAD+ infusions?
Those with sensitive skin may notice a slight reaction the adhesive patch, but nothing more than you would with a bandaid. You might lose some arm hairs too, but that's more a feature than a bug. You may notice extreme cramping and nausea with IVs, but should have very limited reaction to our patches.
Can I exercise while wearing my Ion Layer patch?
Yes. Ion Layer uses patches that are extremely flexible and adhere well to the skin under normal daily activities, including exercise. The patches are designed to withstand a lot of motion and weight-bearing exercises. If you are extremely active, be sure to use the Ion Layer adhesive (black) cover to keep the patch in place.
Can I shower or bathe with the patch on?
If you need to shower while wearing the patch, we recommend to avoid putting the patch under the water stream as much as possible. If the patch does get wet, just gently pat it dry with a towel. Do not immerse the patch in bathwater, as the soapy water will loosen the adhesive.
Can I wear the patch overnight?
Yes, you can wear the patch while you sleep. We recommend wearing the patch for 14 hours and then removing it since the NAD+ will all be delivered within that 14-hour window.
Do I need a prescription for NAD+ Patches?
Yes. The iontophoresis patches contains a small battery operated device that facilitates the absorption of NAD+ through skin into the bloodstream. The patches are considered a medical device due to this mechanism and, therefore, are only available by prescription. Our network of physicians will review your intake form, schedule a virtual consult, and will help you decide if IonLayer is a good fit or not for you.
Does this have a needle? Does it hurt?
Nope! No needles here. Iontophoresis patches use a small one-time use battery to power the current that pushes the NAD+ across your skin and to your bloodstream. The best part? You don't feel a thing. No tingling, pinching, shocking, zapping and best of all -- no needles.
How do I remove an Ion Layer patch?
It is best to remove Ion Layer patches after getting them wet. The most important thing to remember is to use some soap and water to loosen the adhesive before removal.
Is it normal to experience any irritation or redness on my skin after removing the patch?
Minor skin reddening beneath the area where the patch was applied is a common occurrence and typically subsides after a brief period. To reduce the risk of skin irritation, it's recommended to rotate the area where you apply the patch and to not apply the patch to the same area on your body within 10 days.
Is there any science to support the claims of the benefits of NAD+?
Yes! There are hundreds of research articles that validate the use of NAD+ to boost levels in vivo that lead to increased life span, improved metabolic health, lower inflammation, increased energy, better focus, and more.
NAD+ sounds like a crazy chemical, how do I know this is safe?
Sounds crazy, but without NAD+ there would cease to be life. Your body produces NAD+ naturally from B vitamins and via making energy, so it's not a new or foreign compound to the body.
What is NAD+?
It is a coenzyme that is critical for every cell in your body and the majority of your metabolic processes. A coenzyme is a substance that drives processes forward. It carries electrons around your body that are critical for energy, metabolism, DNA repair, and more. As you age and succumb to inflammatory processes, natural NAD+ production decreases.
Where should I place the NAD+ Patch?
Place the patch anywhere where hair will not interfere with mild adhesive. Common locations are upper arm, abdomen, back, and thigh.
Who are your pharmacy partners?
IonLayer currently works with Curexa Pharmacy and HealthSmart Pharmacy. To consult or ask questions, you can reach out to Curexa Pharmacy at 3007 Ocean Heights Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234 or call them at 855.927.0390 and HealthSmart Pharmacy at 9197 Cleveland Road Clayton, NC 27520 or call them at 919.359.1474.
Why do I have to mix my NAD+ in vials?
NAD+ starts degrading as soon as it is made into a solution. We supply your raw NAD+ with sterile water to maximize the potency to make sure you get the most out of your treatment as humanly possible.
Why do you require a photo ID to be uploaded?
Identity verification is required by our Telehealth partner to ensure that there is a real person behind a process and proves that they are who they are claiming to be.
Why not use supplement precursors like NMN and NR?
Precursors to NAD+ have been shown to be effective for some, but many do not experience the benefits. High dose NAD+ administered directly to the bloodstream, as in IV or iontophoresis applications, leads to a much higher and sustained elevation of serum NAD+ than precursors.
Will I feel pain or discomfort while wearing Ion Layer?
Ion Layer uses patches with a very low level of electric current. There is normally no feeling or sensation when wearing Ion Layer. On occasion, Ion members report a slight tingly feeling during drug delivery.
